Interview With Gangsta Reese

Here is our 2nd Interview with the great Gangsta Reese.  Peep it out.

-An Interview with the great Gangsta Reese.  What you been up to now a days??

POSTED. JUST TAKIN CARE OF THE FAM, STAYIN OUT THE WAY. I FUCK WITH THE MUSIC EVERY SO OFTEN WHEN MY FOLKS GET AT ME TO GET DOWN AND DO SOME SHIT, OR WHEN AN OPPORTUNITY COMES UP AS FAR AS SOME BREAD OR SOMEONE I REALLY WANT TO WORK WITH. ITS DIFFERENT NOW. I SET THE PACE ON WHAT I WANNA DO. NOT HAVING TO MEET NO DEADLINES OR HURRY UP AND GET SOME SHIT DONE. I DO IT WHEN I WANNA DO IT. IM ABLE TO TAKE MY TIME WITH THE SHIT AND MAKE SURE IT’S THE EXACT WAY I WANT IT TO COME OUT WHEN ITS RELEASED. I THINK ITS MORE OF AN ARTISTIC APPROACH TO SHIT RATHER THEN GOING TO A STUDIO AND KNOCCIN NOTHIN ASS SONGS OUT JUST TO PUT SOMETHIN OUT YOU KNOW? SO IM JUST DOIN ME CUHZ, MENTORING THE NEW GENERATION FROM THE 408 WHO WOULD LIKE TO TAP IN AND GET SOME OF WHAT I KNOW IN THIS RAP SHIT. LIKE I SAID JUST POSTED BREH..

-Any upcoming albums/ mixtapes your working on?

FILTHY RICH GOT AT ME A FEW WEEKS BACK AND WE ARE EXPLORING DOING POSSIBLY ANOTHER ENEMIGOS ALBUM. IF NOT ENEMIGOS, IT WILL BE A SOLO GANGSTA REESE ALBUM. WITH THAT BEING SAID, IM IN CONTACT WITH THE HOMIE CONVIC AND WE ARE DISCUSSING THE DETAILS AND THE DIRECTION I/WE WANNA GO WITH THE ENEMIGOS II PROJECT. IF WE ARE UNABLE TO COME UP WITH A UNIFIED DIRECTION OR VISION, THEN YOU WILL BE SEEING A GANGSTA REESE SOLO. JUST FOR THE RECORD, ENEMIGOS “AGONY & ECSTACY” HAS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST SLEPT ON ALBUMS EVER. I JUST HAD TO SAY THAT. YOU CAN SLAP THAT MUFUGGA FROM START TO FINISH. I THINK IT SHOULDA HAD SOME MORE PUB AROUND IT, MAYBE SHOT SOME MORE  VIDEOS FOR IT. I CANT CALL IT. I JUST KNOW THAT OUT OF ALL THE MUSIC I HAVE DONE, I AM REALLY PROUD OF THAT EFFORT. I KNOW ITS NOT A WEAK ALBUM. YOU KNOW HOW MUFUGGAS BE HATIN ON THE 408 THO. ITS NOTHIN CAUSE IM STILL GONNA COME OUT PUTTIN MY FOOT ON FOOLS NECKS HITTIN THEY ASS WITH THIS ES408 TYPE SPIT. IM WORKING WITH MY DUDE BLAC FROM NO MERCY RECORDS ON SOME SHIT TOO, AND GOTTA GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO E-NUTT AND THAT JOSIE BOIS CAMP, CHECK US ON THAT “DOPE TRACCS & THRO-BACCS” MIXTAPE.

-Can you tell use how you got your name??

HOW I GOT MY NAME? WELL MY NAME IS MAURICE. MY FAMILY CALLED ME REESIE WHILE GROWING UP. IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD (CHECKERS DRIVE/EL RANCHO VERDE) FOLKS CALLED ME REESE, REESIE, REESIE CUP, MO, MO’ MONEY…JUST THE SHIT I WAS OUT THERE DOIN WAS GANGSTA, HENCE THE NAME GANGSTA REESE..

-What do you think of the San Jose Hip-Hop Scene right now?

I THINK THAT THESE NEW CATS THAT’S OUT DON’T RESPECT OR GIVE PROPER DUE TO THE ONES WHO LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR THEM TO HAVE IT LIKE THEY HAVE IT NOW. BEING A RAPPER OUT OF SAN JOSE WAS ROUGH BACK IN THE DAY. ACTUALLY GETTING YOUR MUSIC HEARD AND RESPECTED. ITS ALWAYS BEEN SOME LIGHTWEIGHT HATIN ON SAN JOSE HERE IN NOR. CAL JUST DUE TO THE FACT WE AINT NO MUTHAFUCCIN FOLLOWERS AND WE SET THE TONE, WE SET THE MODE IN WHAT WE DO. CANT NOBODY DO IT LIKE US. WE WITH THE SHIT. DON’T LET THESE OTHER MUFUGGAS TELL YOU NO DIFFERENT. IT WASN’T ABOUT PLAYERS, POPPIN COLLARS AND ALL THAT. IT WAS BANDANNA SWANGIN, AND BUSTIN ON ENEMIES TYPE SHIT. REAL HOOD SHIT YOU KNOW. SHIT I REMEMBER A STUDIO I USED TO RECORD AT HAD TO PUT A VIDEO CAMERA OUTSIDE DUE TO NOT HAVING DIFFERENT FOLKS FROM SAN JOSIE CROSSIN PATHS COMIN IN AND OUT HIS STUDIO TO RECORD, CAUSE HE UNDERSTOOD IT WOULD GO DOWN ON SIGHT. I DON’T REALLY LISTEN TO TOO MUCH RAP. I MEAN EVERY NOW AND THEN I HEAR SOME SHIT I LIKE, BUT JUST OUT THERE LISTENING TO HELLA RAP SHIT THAT AINT TALKIN BOUT NOTHING CONCRETE, I AINT WITH THAT SHIT. THESE NEW CATS GREW UP ON FULL CLIP, GREW UP ON JAZ, FBG, CHINA, GOON SQUAD, SOLO. THEY GREW UP ON KILLA SHARKS, GANGSTA REESE, MOBFIA, SILENCE, H-BLOCC, SHEA & CONVIC, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, YOUNG 211, ASSASSIN, G-PACK, G-ROC, L.O.C. SHIT TOO MANY TO LIST!! IM FROM A NEIGHBORHOOD, AND WE RESPECT OUR OG’S. WE MAY NOT GET ALONG WITH ALL OF OUR OG’S BUT WE RESPECT THEM, BECAUSE THEY PAID THE PRICE AND THEY PAVED THE WAY FOR HOW I HAVE IT NOW. FEEL ME? SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE THE G-CODE HAS LEFT THIS NEW GENERATION, AND THAT’S JUST KEEPIN IT 408% REAL. AT THE SAME TIME I, OR NONE OF THE CATS FROM MY GENERATION OUR ASKING FOR NO HAND OUT, OR SAYING HAVE A PITY PARTY FOR A MUFUGGA. JUST SAYIN KEEP IT GANGSTA AND RECOGNIZE THOSE WHO LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR WHAT YOU NOW OUT THERE REPRESENTING. I CAN HONESTLY SAY THE LAST ALBUM I REALLY WAS DIGGIN AND WAS FEELIN WAS THE FLY GUY BY STIK GILATINE. THAT ALBUM WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR ON THIS 408 SCENE. LOVE THAT ALBUM. ALSO ALL THE SHIT MY DUDE SILENCE LOC IS DOIN OUT THERE OVERSEAS AND HERE IN THE STATES. POUND FOR POUND SILENCE IN MY OPINION IS THE HARDEST LYRCIST OUT OF THE 408. I WOULD PUT CUHZ UP AGAINST WHOEVER. GOTTA SHOUT OUT MY DUDE E-NUTT FOR REACHIN OUT TO ME, AND WE KNOCCED OUT THAT MIXTAPE. THAT’S A DEMONSTRATION OF REAL 408 LOVE. I’M FEELIN MY DUDE D-BOY FROM NO MERCY RECORDS TOO, I WOULD SAY BLAC, BUT HE IN THE GENERATION IM IN. I’M FEELIN THEM JOSIE BOIS TOO.
-Anybody that has caught your attention that your wanna collab with that you haven't had a chance with yet?

I WOULDN’T SAY CAUGHT MY ATTENTION, I WILL JUST SAY ITS LONG OVERDUE. ME DOING A CUT WITH MR. SOLO. I WANNA WORK WITH THE SAMOAN HOMIES S-FACTOR. MOST OF ALL IM LOOKIN TO COLLAB WITH SOME OF THE NEW YOUNG RAPPERS COIN OUT THE 408. IM WITH THAT ALL THE WAY, I THINK WE CAN MAKE SOME SHIT HAPPEN.

-The Street of San Jose,  Great video and song with a familar sample (I'm also from the East) .  How did that come about?

WELL ACTUALLY ITS CALLED “THEY ALL SAY”. IT WAS MISNAMED ON YOUTUBE. I’M GALD YOU LIKE THE VIDEO. IT WAS MY FIRST ONE. SHOUT OUT TO MY COUSIN JIGGA JONES FOR SHOOTIN IT FOR ME, AND SHEA SAV FOR DIRECTING. WE CHOSE THAT SONG CAUSE IT HAD A UNIVERSAL APPEAL TO IT, AND IT WAS CATCHY YOU KNOW? YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH THAT OLD SCHOOL MARY JANE GIRLS SAMPLE. THE LYRICS LAID OVER THE TRACC JUST RIGHT, PERFECT COMBINATION. EVERY NOW AND THEN I WOULD GO ON YOUTUBE AND READ THE COMMENTS. YOUTUBE GOT A LOT OF HATER FA REAL. YOU KNOW MUFUGGAS TALKING BIG AND BAD FROM BEHIND A KEYBOARD. THAT’S EXPECTED THO, CAUSE YOU CAN BE THE HARDEST KILLA ON THE INTERNET. WE GOT GOOD FEEDBACK, AND WE GOT FOOLS TALKIN SHIT. THAT’S JUST WHAT YOU GET ON YOUTUBE. I WILL TELL YOU THIS THO, WHAT WOULD FUCK ME UP IS SOME OF THE HATIN ASS COMMENTS WERE COMING FROM MUFUGGAS FROM SAN JOSE. I WAS THINKIN I PUT A VIDEO ON THIS SHIT THAT SHOWS THE STREETS YOU LIVE ON, THE STREETS YOU KNOW. THE CITY YOU LOVE, AND YOU HATIN SEEING YOUR CITY PUT ON? THAT’S THE BITCH SHIT. YOU CHEER OAKLAND, FRISCO, AND VALLEJO ON, BUT WHEN A MUTHAFUCCA REPPIN FOR YOU WHERE YOU GREW UP, YOU CANT DO NOTHIN BUT HATE AND BE MAD. THAT ONE OF THE REASONS OUR CITY DON’T COME UP AS IT SHOULD. EVERYBODY WANNA BE THE “MAN” TOO MANY CHEIFS, NOT ENOUGH INDIANS YOU KNOW? I AINT EVEN MAD THO, SAY WHAT YOU WANNA SAY, BUT THE LAST TIME I CHECKED THAT MUTHAFUCCIN VIDEO GOT 142,878 VIEWS, SO SOMEBODY MUST LIKE IT J

-Why do you think San Jose rappers, in general, don't get the shine they deserve?

LACK OF UNITY. MUTHAFUCCAS GOT LIL CLIQUES AND DON’T WANNA REALLY BUBBLE. THEY LIKE BEING LOCAL MUFUGGAS. SMALL MINDED SHIT YOU KNOW? YOU LOOK AT OTHER CITIES, EVERYBODY FUCK WITH EACH OTHER. IN SAN JOSE A MUTHAFUCCA WILL TELL YOU IN YOUR FACE THEY BUMP YOUR SHIT ALL THE TIME, BUT THEN WILL GO GET AND PAY SOME MUTHAFUCCA FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GET DOWN WITH THEM IN THE STUDIO. THOSE “FEATURES” ARE LOOKIN AT YOUR ASS AS A PAYCHECK, BUT THE PEOPLE FROM YOUR CITY IS MORE INTO HAVING THE BEST SHOWING THEY CAN CAUSE THEY TAKE PRIDE IN THE CITY OF SJ. I MEAN YEA YOU GOTTA PAY YOUR HOMETOWN ARTIST FOR A FEATURE TOO CAUSE BUSINESS IS BUSINESS AND LIFE IS REAL, BUT THEY WILL PUT THERE ALL INTO IT CAUSE IT REPRESENTS US, FEEL ME?

-Last question,  Where can people get your music?
ITS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. GOOGLE ME. ITUNES. CDBABY.AMAZON. DATPIFF.WHEREVER.

-Last Words?

THANKS FOR THE INTERVIEW. APPRECIATE IT FAM…

Myc Ripley Interview part 2

Part 2 of the interview with Myc Ripley

-I always see you put Life on chill.  Can you explain what that is?

I'm a firm believer that as humans we speak most things into our lives, we manifest 85% of what happens to us. Whether we understand this or not. Our subconscious minds play a major part in our perception of this world we live in. #lifeonchill is the new way to make moves. I've done the knucklehead and shady living, this is just me growing up and putting an end to the bullshit I find myself in. Its a conscious awareness state of mind, like a constant mantra to live by now that I'm making into a brand for life.

Life On Chill and L.O.C Covey, which is easier said as "Ello Covey" is the byproduct of unoriginality, biting, hating, negative energy, and the force feeding of social norms. To all that I say "Chill!!"

The Motto is "Life On Chill."

You can only control your existence and how you react/conquer situations. Situations and life are better handled on the chill. I believe most would agree.

The tagline is "That L.O That L.O.. If you know me, say HELLO!" Some know me, some act like they don't. I leave it at that, I don't chase anyone or anything.

Basically, keep #LifeOnChill and master yourself. All will pan out for the better afterwards. We still working on strategies to wake people the fuck up..

-Why are the people you work with never get shine?

I like to work with and be the underdog, its keeps me humble as well as still pushing toward a common goal. So, in turn I work with the same type people. Those that are still trying to make a name in this so-called scene of SJ hip hop or hip hop in general. It helps me apply things that I have learned over the years in working with most artists in SJ that have let a little bit of popularity go to their head like worldwide fame. I know people have heard my name out there, whether they admit it or not. Shit, I've been on SJ stages since '05 maybe earlier and in other places. I know I'm heard of. How far does my name carry? Sheesh, I don't know. I don't trip off shit like that. I make my songs, do whatever features are asked of me, hit the booth and keep it moving. All other is just distraction, honestly.

On the flip side of that though, I haven't really taken the steps 100% to get shine, like shop my albums, connect with a marketing/promotion team or anything of that nature because 85% of these type people are shady. So, I know that plays a part in any artist (me or those I choose to work with) not getting shine or notability. Although, I work with people that would still be in my circle if this music shit wasn't even jumpin' like that. I work with those that I get a genuine core sense of respect from, there's levels to this shit when dealing with me. I've been stabbed in the back too many times for blindly working with someone I just figured was cool. Now, I'm to the point where I gotta see how you operate with people and life first before even trying to build with an artists. Too much fuck shit going on behind the scenes.. I'm bipolar, I can't have high stress and dumb people around me trying to be cool or ratchet for the fuck of it.. That ain't me G..

-Why do you think People don't wanna work with you?

I don't think that people don't want to work with me, I get asked to work with people all the time. Mainly, people who make beats reach out to me more than actual artists do. I think that shit is better anyway, because it shows me that person has listend to me enough to know that I'll do their beat justice and go in with precise tactics in getting the perfect song to that beat. Also, I don't have to deal with lame egos of people who are stll on the same playing field as I am. I think that I resonate on the wavelength with some artists. Most artists might not feel my concepts most of the time though. I'm abstract and way beyond the beliefs of most, some of my thoughts aren't easy to grasp or see, y'dig? Sometimes I just don't feel like conforming and making another trendy song for popularity. Really though, right now at this moment I'm focused on getting my real life straightened out or what not. You know, family, work, the laws, etc.. a ninja got to be super clean, that might hold me back from getting into some other artists studios possibly. That's ultimately a question to ask other SJ artists, WHY YOU AIN'T TRYNA WORK WITH MYC RIPLEY?!?! o_O hahah!!

-Last question when your album coming out??

The album #FVXKERY is set for February 13th, 2014 if all goes well. I'll shop it, take even more of the proper stpes, etc.. I just released a compilation named "Featuring Myc Ripley" on August 5th, that has songs from the people that actaully have worked with me. Whether I reached out or they reached out. The songs are on Datpiff, Bandcamp, and Hot New Hip Hop music platforms.

Myc Ripley Interview with Everything San Jose Hip-Hop Pt1

.
Our First interview with San Jose Veteran Myc Ripley.  Part 1

- How did you come up with your name?

I used to go by the name Cozmick The 8th Wonder. Then Garcia Gridi, but those were short lived. They had no meaning, at least to me it didn't. The name Mychogg Ripley (sounds like Mike Hogg) was given to me by my higher self in an encounter I had with the infinite darkness back in like 2001 or something. It means, Most Yall Cowards Have Offended God Greatly Rest In Peace Life Ends Young. "God" just doesn't mean the creator, it also is the relationship an individual has with themself, their inner God, inner G or ENERGY.  Myc Ripley is easier for the masses to speak instead of the whole. Also, I feel a name should have meaning, this gives you a true purpose within your music as well.
- Why Hip Hop?

Why not?! I mean, its the most creative form of using words. Even though, I don't just do hip hop, I do other type music. Been doing reggae vibes n lyrics over dubstep/electronic sounds since before the trendy craze.. Also, some rock songs with good friends of mine in his band since way back in my beginning stages. I basically, do music. I can't be put into one precise box when its comes to my creativity. I know that's why its hard for me to breakout like majority of artists have. I'm still bouncing back and forth between genres having a good time creating what I want. Whether it is appreciated or not, I like to be the first to do certain things a certain way.

-What made you pick the name Nemesis as the title?

My last album that dropped in November 2012 was called Nemesis, because I was going rogue on all aspects. From the beat selection (I made everyone of them), to concepts and features. All across the board I wanted to prove to myself that I could make a 20 track album and talk about what I wanted or needed to talk about personally. Nemesis was more of an album to help me focus on my ascension into the new dimensions we are leading up to here in the next 7 years. This was the basic I vs I scheme of things. By definition, Nemesis is "a long-standing rival; an archenemy" and basically, I am my only worst enemy. I ain't worried about what nobody else is doing, I move in my own time. That album was to overcome and find out what was going on inside me at the new stage I found my life in. I had to fight and deal with the hate for myself I collected over the years.

-What's Your next project called?  and who do you plan to Feature on it?

My next project is called #FVXKERY. Forever Victory x Killin Everything Reality Yearns due out for February. Its going to interesting. Im still working out the feature side of it, I know that it will have more people outside of San Jose and California. Romania will for sure be on it, the homie from the Caribbean is on it. As well as my crew.. hopefully, its still being decided.
